The sun has blown off several X class flares in the last day or two and they're hitting us now, anyone out from under the smoke should get quite a show. Live simulation
another view
http://www.spaceweather.com/ I want to wring that kids neck for yet another reason now. Couldn't see the sun today, the moon last night, and this display is out of the question... I can barely see the hill top 1/4 mile away. bawl.gif

yup, here too. Even the moon couldn't punch through the crud that nite. This result showed up on Spaceweather too...the list of states where it was seen was huge...and did not include WA or OR

You dog! Have a great time and I hope you get lucky. That three week span will coincide with the possibility of the big spots responsible for the X class flares rotating back into view, which could be very good for your chances.

According to a couple I met at the Heather Meadows RS there was a major Aurora last night visible with reds and greens from Austin Pass.
