Good.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

You can buy a drone that will follow you down the trail, filming all your accomplishments for future generations to marvel over. How could this possibly be an issue for anyone else??

Start a gofundme to get a new one. I'm sure you'll get lots of contributions from fellow hikers clown.gif

Sadly it appears other people looked past your cheer and decided this would be a good platform for an ego boost. The only pure LNT'ers just stay home. The rest are posers.

Damn. Glad you got it back and only prop damage. Got lucky there. I wonder why it didn't stop when going into the tree. Its supposed to recognize something in front of it and stop. Mine does. Unless you had that turned off or maybe doesn't work once it loses connection. You got some cool footage.

I've been seeing this sentiment coming up on a recurring basis lately. I believe it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the intention of LNT. Which is not helped by the title "Leave No Trace," which is a bit of a misnomer, since it's impossible to get out there and not leave some sorts of traces. The idea as I understand it is to minimize one's trace within reasonable bounds while still getting out there. As for drones, though I'm a photographer and fully understand their appeal, and I get that they're allowed in many places. But I'm never keen on their arrival while out hiking as they're a bit of a buzzkill. Fortunately as buzzkills go it's mild and usually brief. I assume that most drone users are cool with all that. To each their own. I'm sure some hikers find my leashed dog to be a buzzkill, based on comments I've seen... It will be interesting when the "selfie drone" that reliably follows its owner (and avoids all the other selfie drones) becomes cheap and prevalent.
