I saw a comment that it was started by target shooters. "Kittitas County Sheriff 44 mins Level 3 “GO” Evacuations Issued in Teanaway due to Brush Fire The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has issued Level 3 “Go Now” Evacuation Notices to about 20 homes in the Teanaway due to a brush fire. The fire started in the 8500 block of Teanaway Road and quickly spread to both sides of the roadway. Level 3 Notices were issued from the 8500 block to the 6500 block of Teanaway Road. Level 3 means you are advised to the leave the area now due to immediate fire danger. Level 2 “Get Set” Notices were issued from the 6500 block to the 4000 block. Residents are advised to prepare to leave at a moment’s notice. Teanaway Road is currently closed to all traffic at Red Bridge Road and fire apparatus are blocking several spots on the Teanaway Road for suppression efforts. Three helicopters are actively dropping water on the Teanaway Road fire. State Mobilization has also been requested for additional resources."

Just drove through. It has jumped the road. They are letting folks out but nobody in. Just got done hiking Lake Ingalls. Its very windy and it spread fast. Alot of emergency vehicles on the road. My wife is driving.and I'm in the passenger seat wink.gif Might want to change your hiking plans if Ingalls is your weekend destination

Damn! Pretty late in the year for fires. I was fairly surprised to see several prescribed burns going on near Lake Wenatchee this week. Seems like fire danger is still at least moderate or above most places.

A buddy says the incident commander guessed around 200 or more acres.

Have I offended you today?

Wenatchee River R.D. lost a prescribed burn last weekend.

Huh. I definitely saw some smoke and haze off and on Wed. and Thurs. It seemed kinda weird, after such a terrible summer for fires, now that conditions have improved only a little to light a fire on purpose? Couldn't wait a few more weeks for more precip and cooler temps, more snow, whatever?

There were several prescribed burns in and around Roslyn area for today and yesterday. Well away from this area. I hadn't heard any source as yet. Maybe target shooters, maybe something else. It was very breezy today so that certainly will help spread the fire.

Had to go into the VA hospital today. I noticed the fire as I pulled up onto the Upper Peoh point road. Damn, I was going to go into lake Ann tomorrow. I guess not now.

News reports this afternoon of a grass fire near Graham prompting some evac orders. Reportedly started by teenagers. Evidently still a fairly high fire level danger until fall rains/snow set in for earnest.

Kittitas County Fire District #7 (Facebook page) as of 1 hour ago (9 pm) Early this afternoon, KCFD7 arrived near mile marker 5.5 on Teanaway Rd to find a wind driven fire spreading quickly in brush, grasses, and trees. The fire began on the west side of the road, then spotted to the other side. Upon arrival, incident command called for immediate assistance from the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office for level 3 evacuations, and for mutual aid from other agencies. The residents of one cabin sheltered in place as the fire burned around the structure and are safe. The fire is currently on both sides of Teanaway Rd and estimated to be between 200-300 acres. Working the fire today included 3 DNR helicopters, 2 air tankers, dozers, USFS hand crews, KCFD7, KCFD1, KVFR, CEFD, KCFD8, RFD. Two retardant drops were made on the north and south sides of the fire. A state mobe was initiated and approved with a type 3 incident management team assuming command of the incident in the morning. A total of 33 units were on scene today, and some will remain overnight, including water tenders, hand crews, brush trucks, and overhead (command). There is a road block at Teanaway & Red Bridge Rd so please stay away from the area to allow for easy access for fire crews. Update: one outbuilding lost. It started at Pedersons place (2nd place past Conner lumber). Was started by brother in law shooting skeet in 2ft high dry grass.

Good question. Fall is always a tight window to have adequate burning conditions and there's much guesswork at the weather. This weekends precip could wipe out any opportunity for the remainder of the season and is my guess for the decisions to do some ignitions now.

Posted about 1 pm today. Kittitas County Sheriff added 4 new photos. Teanaway River Fire- Road Closure Update Teanaway Road is now open to local traffic only. Please reduce your speed and use caution when driving through the 8500-10000 block of the Teanaway Road. Fire Crews are still working in the area and we ask that you leave your gates open in the event they need to access areas behind your property. We will update you as conditions change.
