I am thinking of trying some of these and so asking for recommendations from experienced users. Any particular make/model you like/dislike? Any negative/positive experiences with them? How do they do on hot days, do they make it significantly hotter? Just wondering because one can always tweak one's hiking strategy. Rumi

Get a pair compression sleeves and save money and weight. If you wear a hole in the toe of compression sox, you're out a bunch of $$. And when you backpack, you can take one pair of compression sleeves and 2 pairs of socks and rinse/dry cycle the latter. I used Zensah sleeves quite a bit when I ran ultras. They seemed to help reduce fatigue of my calf and tibialis anterior muscles, although I'm not sure why.

BigSteve which ones are you suggesting? They come in just calf or calf/ankle.

Gosh, I wasn't even aware you could get them in just sleeves like this. Turns out there is a bunch of runner stuff that I was totally in the dark about. Thanks for the heads up. Rumi

I use a calf compression sleeve (Orthosleeve brand, CS6) when my Achilles acts up, and for a while after, for both hiking and running. It does seem to help, but since only my left side is an issue, I don't really have a control group. I've worn it when it's been as high as mid-70s and didn't notice it being too hot.

Rumi, what purpose are you looking to have them serve?

Truthfully I don't have a problem to solve. But I have read where others claim they help reduce leg fatigue. I do know that if I have a long day of 20 to 28 miles, my lower legs are tired. I might give these a shot to see if I could sense significant reduction in leg fatigue. Rumi

Somebody on another (fitness related) forum I visit has been talking about a company blowing last year's model out for $6 per pair. Or something like that. I looked before posting and wasn't able to find the link for you, or the name of the company. If you look around you might find it; if not, I'll see if I can get him to mention it again and then post the info here.

I like the continuous compression socks better than sleeves, but the sleeves are cheaper, and you can wear them longer without washing them.
