My wife was on vacation and both the kids (there in there 20's now) were available so we decided to head to the coast for a whirl wind visit. We were both there several years ago and had a great time so we had at it once again all along Long Beach from Leadbetter Point to Cape Disappointment, then we went down to Cannon and Ecola Beach. We had some pretty intense weather as tstorms came through initially, then several days of spotty showers, but mostly sunshine and moderate temperatures. Quite a few trails were restricted or temporarily closed due to landslides, erosion, and / or maintenance, but we managed to get some miles and views in and had a fantastic family trip. Our first Olympic coast hiking and backpacking was nearly 20 years ago when we did a mega vacation while still living in Ohio which encompassed 8000 miles of the NW and SW. Washington is a pretty spectacular place, and the food over there was the best the Cottage Bakery was worth the trip alone, as well as Duggers Seafood, and the best fish and chips I ever tasted down in Cannon Beach at Ecola Fish Restaurant and Market. The drive in fall colors was quite spectacular too coming in via SR 12 and back via the Columbia River Gorge / Bridge of the Gods.
Ecola Beach. Haystack on Cannon Beach. On Cannon Beach. Rain and Rainbow. Nice greens hiking through the woods to the coast. Willapa Bay Long Beach North of Leadbetter State Park, we had some heavy rains and thunderstorms early but it became pretty nice out with some blue skies and sprinkles. Cape Disappointment area. Nettie enjoying the get away. Long Beach from Ocean Park access the evening we arrived.

Not a lot of gain, but good views and always nice to get the whole family together.
I can relate to that. This weekend is the first time both of our kids (and spouses) were together with us in almost 8 years. Unfortunately it was for my wife's memorial celebration of life! But it was a great event.

Oregon Coast?.....

Not sure I understand this. Weren't you just hiking last week or so? If so, then my sincere condolences to you HTT. I hope I am just confused. Regards, ~z

Beautiful photos, especially the 3rd one and the open woods one.

It had been planned for some time. She thinks it is a much better idea to have the celebration of life while you are still alive so can attend also and visit with family and friends. Just one of her many quirks. It was well attended and everybody thinks she may be on to something.

That's actually a very good idea. Still must have been quite the emotional experience for all concerned. Thanks for clearing that up. Take care. ~z

Memorials are held for the benefit those remaining. The one who has passed does not get to participate (in the usual sense). Holding a memorial beforehand so you can enjoy it with your favorite people is a brilliant idea.

The clouds, fog, and changing light made for some great scenery. When a storm came through while hiking in the forest the "50 shades of green" was pretty spectacular.
