I did an 11.5mi ramble in West Virginia's Coopers Rock State Forest yesterday.
The day began with an unsuccessful attempt to photograph the sunrise over the Cheat River, from the Raven Rock overlook. Thick fog from the river blanketed everything...
1- Power-lines descending into the fog
2- Listening to a blue jay's birdsong
3- Pondering the fog
4- Cliff textures

I hiked beside the fantastic cliffs and halls of the Sunset Wall, towards the Cooper Rock overlook.
6- Hiking alongside the Sunset Wall

8- Ann's Hall
The views from Coopers Rock featured more fog, although it was clearing by the time I left.
9- Raven Rock power-lines in the distance
10
11- Cheat River
I then dropped down to the Cheat River past more cliffs and then through pretty woods, before closing my loop at the 6 Acre Reservoir.

13- Swishing through the leaves
14- Kayaker on the Cheat River
15- Cheat Lake
16- GaliWalker hiking through pretty woods
17- 6 Acre Reservoir

Great colors and pictures. As a boy my first memories of out of state trips were with my grand parents when we visited my great grand parents and did side trips to Ohiopyle and Coopers Rock State park. We had alot of relatives around Uniontown, Roscoe, and that area.
Thanks guys. It's been a weird fall foliage year for us here: the much warmer than normal temperatures, which continue, have led to trees going from green straight to brown. Very few are showing the bright fall colors I've come to expect at this time of the year.
When I reached Raven Rock and saw some nice colors below the overlook - I'd hiked to it in the dark so hadn't seen anything till then - I began to get excited. Unfortunately, when the fog lifted and I could see more of the surrounding mountains I realized that it was the same drab show as the past two weeks. I'm still holding on to hope, but it's looking bleak.
