I joke with the fam that I suffer from camping narcolepsy... Just came back from a badly overdue overnighter at the Columbia below Ancient Lakes and I swear I only seemed to be able to drag myself out of the hammock long enough to eat, then was slabbed out again.
Anyone else catch up on sleep while outside?

Yes, some of my best sleeps come when I overnight with my down quilt over me and my air pad under me and the air hits 30s/40s in temperature.

I sleep horribly when traveling, tent or otherwise. But it's worth it.

I sleep great, but I always stay up past sunset, wake up in the middle of the night for stargazing, and wake up before sunrise so I never get many hours (but they are quality hours)

For me, camping ≠ sleeping. Same as it ever was.

Some of my best naps ever are during hikes. I call 'em mountain naps...pull over somewhere on a nice warm rock or under a shade tree, pull my hat down over my eyes and doze listening to the wind or the river, hearing the occasional bug zooming by on their way to places unknown, love it.

I usually sleep fine while backpacking if I have a comfortably flat tent or bivi site, although I tend to sleep an hour or two less per night than when I'm home. Our bud Dr. Andy often takes a 2-hour nap soon after we arrive at camp. AFAICT, he sleeps more hours in the mountains than at home.

I lay awake staring at the tent above me until about 6 in the AM, then fall asleep for an hour or so. By about day three I'm so sleep deprived I'm spouting gibberish and look like a meth addict having a bad day

I sleep great in the outdoors unless a blasting windstorm is knocking my tent down and making it flap like crazy or a raging thunderstorm is dropping buckets of rain and striking at me with lightning.

I sleep deeply for two or three hours and then roll over and look at the stars. Another two or three hours of sleep and roll over again. I never feel more rested than when I get back from the mountains. I think the non-stress environment allows me to rest even when I am hiking.

I've noticed the pattern where I sleep poorly the first night, so-so the second, then great after that.

Same here, unless I'm in my DIY-modded Stephenson 2R. We've slept like a baby in that in storms with whipping 50mph+ avg winds with gusts to 80mph.
