Just another Teanaway trip report. At 0.0 miles (~3060') park at the Stafford Creek Trailhead and start hiking At 2.2 miles (~4030') leave the trail and head cross-country for the SE ridge of Freedom Peak At 3.3 miles (~6000') reach the SE ridge of Freedom Peak At 3.9 miles (~6442') reach the summit of Freedom Peak At 4.2 miles (~6000') reach the saddle that separates Freedom Peak and Navaho Peak At 5.4 miles (~7223') reach the summit of Navaho Peak At 6.3 miles (~6000') reach Navaho Pass At 6.3 miles (~5960') reconnect with the Stafford Creek Trail At 6.8 miles (~5660') reach a popular campsite meadow At 8.0 miles (~5050') reach the junction with the Standup Creek Trail At 8.5 miles (~4800') cross a major drainage At 12.2 miles (~3060') get in the car and drive home While I had done Freedom Peak a couple times... and done Navaho Peak several times, I had never combined the two on the same trip. The ridge walk/scramble from the SE ridge of Freedom to Navaho is a good one... offering views of the entire Teanaway and Stuart Range for most of the way... nothing more involved than Class 2 scrambling... and while it is fairly steep terrain (2000 feet of elevation gain in approximately 1.1 miles) from the Stafford Creek Trail up to the SE ridge of Freedom, it is well worth the effort. The only low point of the day occurred at our high point... as the wind blew us off of the Navaho summit. 12.2 miles roundtrip, gaining 4780 feet of elevation. Photos, trailhead directions and downloadable GPS track of our trip to Freedom Peak and Navaho Peak. ..

"Teanaway 70" Peaks List... a guide to hiking and scrambling in the Teanaway Area. ----------------

Nice idea to traverse over Freedom. I wish I had thought of that -- makes for more Teanaway style fun off trail and less trail hiking out.
