i just took my lenses over to have them cleaned .. i could see tons of dust inside .. and after over 5 yrs use and numerous trips to the desert .. a few times in sandy windstorms .. i just thought i should have it done .. even though i really wasn't seeing any spots ... but i thought perhaps the dust might be affecting something .. well the owner (who has always cleaned my sensors .. first my d70 and now the d90) said bunk ... then patted me on the head and sent me home .. no need to spend $150 each for the job .. just thought i'd share this .. also i mentioned to him that the tele wiggled a little on the body .. he checked it out, tightened a few screws and that was that .. no charge ..

sorry .. 518 NE 165th St, Seattle (it's actually Shoreline -- across from the old Crest Theater) 206.367.2440 ... walk in hours are Tues-Sat, 10 am-2pm; he does the bulk of his repairs in the afternoons ... he's there in the back at that time and available for pick up, but not for drop off .. you have to do that during the walk in hours it takes 1 day for a sensor cleaning .. o and cash payment will usually get you a little discount ..

Thanks for the tip! My favorite lens has a big blob of something inside it. Almost looks like a spot of grease came loose and attached itself to one of the elements near the edge. It seems to only affect pictures when shooting at wide apertures and shooting towards the sun. Obviously that's not something that happens all that often, but I'd like to get it taken care of.

The name of the company is "The Camera Clinic". I have been a customer there since the '70'sa, a very good and knowledgeable gentleman runs the place. In the same vein, I would recommend "Close Instrument Repair" http://www.closeinstrumentrepair.com/ for any repairs of binoculars, telescopes, optical levels, theodolites and transits, and Brunton compasses and pocket transits

Iron, When I last looked he had a sign on his door that if you called him he could set up appointments for repair, etc. His door also had the name of two other shops he was recommending.
