We're collecting camping gear at this years' Calendar Social. Those who are not planning on attending can meet with one of our gear-collecting volunteers between now and then. If you wish to donate gear to Facing Homelessness, send a PM to Damian or me and we'll figure out pickup/dropoff logistics. Note we're limited location-wise; I live north end Seattle, Damian is Rentonish. Anyone who wants to volunteer to collect gear, please let us know. No stoves or fuel! Synthetic fabric is best for sleeping bags and coats. Here's a list of things they accept: We accept the items listed below as donations from our community.
  • Socks - New, adult socks; men’s and women’s
  • Sleeping Bags - New and gently used (clean and undamaged); adult size only
  • Tents and Tarp - New and gently used (clean and undamaged); all sizes
  • Backpacks - New and gently used (clean and undamaged)
  • hiking packs and backpacks; adult size only
  • Coats - New and gently used (clean and undamaged); adult size only. Hooded and rain repellent jackets especially useful
  • Hats and Gloves - New, adult hats and gloves
Here's their Amazon Wish List as well!

Kim, I wish I could help but I gave away all my extra clothing and gear to the Union Gospel Mission and to Nepal after the earthquake.

So if we use this list does it go directly to Facing Homelessness? Is there a way to show it came from NWHikers? Rumi

I would also contribute via the Amazon wishlist. +1 on RumiDude's question. Very cool idea - thank you Kim and Damian and all other nwhikers helping with this.

I am not sure. It's unclear to me whether the click thru from NWH will generate any click thru commission for us. If it does it will show up on our monthly report (amazon shows us what items are purchased and whether they qualify for commission, but not much else). Any click thru commission we receive for these items will be donated to Facing Homelessness.
