A brief break between storms took me over to the sunny side for a hike in the Yakima Canyon area. Drizzle at the trailhead lasted until the top of the ridge but the promised sunshine arrived when I was about to give up and head back down.
I walked east along the crest a couple of miles to where the ridge begins a steep drop down toward Roza Ck and took the grassy slope down where I found an old road bed that took me back to the entrance of the canyon for a 10 mile loop.
No other people but heard some gunshots in the distance. I saw several large coveys of chukars on the ridge and a couple of deer on the walk down.
The main trail is very muddy and slick so I opted to walk cross county for most of the hike.
Footbridge over the Yakima River.
Umtanum Canyon.
Clouds covering the top of the ridge.
Not much of a view on the top.
As I was about to start heading down the sun appeared.
