Should still be able to walk across lake on the causeway and then take the Shady Lane trail over the Staircase area.

Does this mean Olympic National Park will NOT even let you walk across the washout up to the Staircase trail?

Glad I went to Staircase when I did a month ago. I even parked next to that toilet so I could take some pics of the creek. The horror the horor..... .

You can drive over the causeway and hike in on Shady lane and get into the park for free.

Its always gated every time I've been there. I thought the cabin owners on the other side of the lake had keys.

Has anyone been over the causeway? What is the gate status?

Weather is looking decent for family walk next weekend.

Best.

Yes, you can drive over the causeway to reach the Dry Creek Trail, Copper Creek Trail and the other side of the Shady Lane Trail.   The gate was not closed.
