Storm Closures Recent storm activity has resulted in the closure of the Hoh Road (washout at MP 8) and the Staircase Road (landslide). The Elwha area of the park is closed to all traffic past the Madison Falls parking lot due to flooding.

^ Now that they have a gate at Phelan Creek on the 2180-010 road, they shut down access into the Queets when the weather gets rough. Best to stay out of there anyway when the big winds come, unless you bring a BIG saw with you.

I really wish they could get a grant and establish a fund to stabilize These major roads. And yes, I know that is pie-in-the-sky but one can always hope. ONP is increasingly becoming more difficult to access. Rumi

We drove back to Seattle after a Thanksgiving weekend and La Push and the Sol Duc River was really full when looking down from the crossings of the highway. It didn't appear to be in flood stage but there was a hard rain most of the way back. I would have enjoyed taking some time out to walk out to Sol Duc falls on the way back but my family out-voted me about walking a mile and back in a hard rain. Go figure!

I know the feeling, puzzlr. Some people, even kinfolk, think of hard rain as " bad weather." I can't convince them it is either bad raingear, bad attitude, or both!
