We made a quick trip to Deer Ridge with the improving weather yesterday. Carried most of our winter gear to get a sense of how well it carried and it pretty much kicked our butt. The snow never exceeded about a foot. Never wore snowshoes, Frog Farm found her microspikes balling up so took them off. I just relied on the aggressive tread on my winter hiking boots.
Peek-a-boo views only but still worth it.
Trailhead
Glimpse through the clouds
Deer Ridge from the bench
Snow Shoe Hare tracks
We made it to just short of a mile from Deer Park before reaching our TAT. Ran into a few locals on the way out and stopped to chat and admire the views.

My fave place, more so in summer. . . I may get adventurous and hike all the way up to Deer Park via the Ridge trail, and camp in the campground for a night and come back down. It's not that hard of a hike, even in winter- 4.5 miles, 2500 ft elev gain. . .
Of course, when you get up there and want to set up camp, there are two nice shelters ready for occupation. A great place to camp if you don't mind the bushy tailed woodrats keeping you up at night!
