It seems like December 4th ended up being a good day for sunsets. We went to Blowdown Mtn via Mt Si. We had hoped to make it to Dixie . . . a favorite snowshoe . . . but ran out of time. The fresh snow was deep and enjoyable near Blowdown. As usual, we saw no one past Mt Si. Like others reported, we enjoyed a splendid sunset on the way down. What a beautiful day!

Amazing. It seems like you got three good photo worthy trips out of one outing. And you made the most of it with awesome photos. Years ago I tried to leave the road to go up the ridge to Blowdown where you did but the young tree branches were too close together to allow passage. Have they grown up more or were they weighed down with snow enough to create some lanes?

For us, one of the attractions of this area between Mt Si and Teneriffe is the myriad of fun snow alleys/lanes that form up as the snow depth increases. On this trip some of the lanes were pretty good, and some of the lanes were ok . . . not great yet . . . but getting there! From Blowdown we started heading off to Crater Lake Mtn, but didn’t get too far because the deep, but somewhat unconsolidated snow didn’t cover the brush quite enough for productive travel and we ran out of forward momentum. It has been fascinating for us to see this area change over the years from scraped to the dirt clearcut to a quiet and secluded feeling snow forest. Thanks for all the nice comments! We are eagerly awaiting a little more snow cover . . .
