Now that's beyond weird.
Like BootPathguy's Trip Report, Ted's blog is a story, not real, although still a fun read: Ted the caver's mystery.

Sorry. Ted the caver is a different guy then in my link. Read that one too though. Boot path guys story sounded more believable.

The road is in excellent condition all the way to the road closure. 2 major washouts beyond the closure. Easy to get past and rest of the road up to Lake Elizabeth is a nice, easy, and peaceful snowshoe. No snowmobilers that I've ever encountered. Caution: Winter terrain trap if the conditions are prime. My concern is the wicked avalanche chutes that are on the southeast face of Crosby Mountain. Just before the entrance to Goat Basin which is on the opposite side of the river.

Experience is what'cha get, when you get what'cha don't want

Historically there have been avalanche several spots before the take off into Goat Basin like you mentioned. Encountered some pretty large ones hiking up there later in the year. But the same could be said at the top of the Switchbacks off Red Mtn.

I parked at the road closed sign. Stepped out of the truck, dropped the tailgate and displayed these. Its my deterrent when I feel like I've parked in a sketchy area.

What a good idea! Why didn't I ever think about that?! Now, when I get home, I'll read the rest of your report. Looks interesting, and thanks.
Hmmm....those that hand load could certainly do this, with a twist. Have the box as indicated, but hand load some empty rounds - leave out the powder and put a drop of oil on the primer via the flash hole before seating the projectile. That way, there's no "actual" ammunition that you're leaving out. They'd be complete duds after a few days, once the oil has inactivated the primer.

I like your style. I once thought of putting up a sign at the trailhead warning of a trailhead vigilante that had been shooting prowlers and to be in the lookout for a vehicle with a description that exactly matches the one I drove.

How prophetic to read this, because not long afterwards, your thread " I Told My Wife" was to become one of the most popular in recent memory on NWHikers with incredible imagery of wild critters!

Such a great story - and wow, almost 20 years old. Glad to see that the site is still live. Thank you to whoever is writing the checks to keep the site going.

If this is where I think it is ($), there are two mines right next to each other (although i'd assume the latter is gated now). They are very clearly different portals too.
