Hey folks, meeting a friend who lives in Oregon halfway for an overnight next week and hoping to find a cool hiking/camping spot around the Yakima area and not finding much via WTA/Google/etc. Anyone got any leads? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Yakima Rim Trail? May have some snow.

A bit further out, Juniper Dunes looks good for a winter camp. Ancient Lakes too.

I haven't hiked there in winter but the Yakima Skyline Trail into Roza Creek was an enjoyable backpacking trip this past April. Camping is a bit limited and you're very exposed to the elements unless you're down low.

Over White Pass and south of Randle are a few low elevation trails.
You could wander in on Kraus Ridge and st up a camp. It is not a very long trail, but you will be in some fairly big trees. Nearby is the Woods Creek watchable wildlife trail loop. Car camping spots are nearby. There is also the Valley Trail but it does not have anything out of the ordinary.
The snowpack is not too good so maybe some trails on the Naches
Ranger District would be doable. You might give them a call.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

It's a little past Yakima, but Ancient Lakes is a good spot this time of year.
