Thought about heading out but decided I'm not psyched enough to do the round trip drive in one day.

This is cool!
Cape Kiwanda live beach cam
Watch the waves crash over the top of the dome. I've been here. That dome is enormous. This is truly a amazing display of nature.

Here's the webcam at Kalaloch. If you refresh it from time to time you can see all the water rushing in to redistribute the logjam in front of the lodge. And this one shows folks parking a little too close to the high tide line at Long Beach. ~z

Wow! Thanks for the links Z.
I screen grabbed some images from the Cape Kiwanda live feed. These are tame. I saw some twice the ferocity

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Most of the inshore buoys near the OR/WA coast peaked at a sig wave height of some 35ft or so. Now thats an average of large waves, so isolated max waves were probably around 60ft.
Further offshore buoy 46005 hit 43 feet... isolated max waves could have been near 80.
The big east coast storm of about 2 weeks ago... a Canadian buoy picked up a significant wave height of 56 feet... implying max isolated waves near 100 feet, one of the highest values I have ever seen.
Theres great videos the last few days of breakers along the euro coasts from their latest big storms. breakers 50 feet at least.... maybe a few 75s.
Winter oceans are not to be messed with lightly!

Here's a good article in the Seattle Times on the recent impact of big waves along the coast. The video shows a particularly large wave catching several cars and onlookers off guard at Ocean Park. Quite a few cars got a saltwater immersion. ~z
Quote: An offshore storm led to massive waves and flooding Thursday on the Washington and Oregon coasts.
The National Weather Service recorded waves more than 30 feet tall near Aberdeen and near the mouth of the Columbia River. Drone photographer Joshua Wilkins caught it on a dramatic video he posted on YouTube.

Great video, how stupid is it to drive into the receding water to park in a space that was just flooded?
Sorry to read about the man who climbed over a sea wall and was washed out to sea. RIP.
