Especially the Western Washingtonian What's up with our local news medias. This morning ( can't remember the network ) they had a segment with a guest speaker on how to avoid... "frost bite"... They weren't targeting the backcountry folk. They were referring to your ordinary downtown street pedestrian. C'mon people. I get it. It's kinda cold. This cold snap is nothing new. Midwesterners and Eastcoasters are laughing at us. Thinking we don't have enough sense to get out of the elements and get inside. It's not like there isn't a public Starbucks on every f### street corner. We're f### Lumberjacks! and Lumberjills! Start acting like it!!! Media has been, and for some time now, wussifing the Washingtonian. I've picked up on, and noticed this transition the last few years. From Lumberjacks & jill's to wussys. Time to move

Experience is what'cha get, when you get what'cha don't want

I'll go with that Western Washington part. No wussifying over here in EASTERN Washington. We'll take as much snow and cold as we can get. The windchills at our local ski areas yesterday was around -15 degrees and the slopes were crowded! But then the slopes were covered with "cold smoke" powder, who could resist?!

Wow. We all used to wear those hats like the guy in the video, and we were not Western WA ers. I had forgotten about those wool hats. I am embarrassed because I have a woosie dog that has to wear a coat outside when it gets a bit chilly. She came from....Yakima originally. 1968 was the really cold time, Yah, lot of dem orchards froze out. Neighbors had tu haul da water from our house because dere pipes froze and parents vere taking turns starting up da cars during da night sos dey could drive tu vork in da morning. Yah, dat vas da cold one and ve had lots of da snow tuu.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Another training hike on the verge of wussification may be the Section Line on Tiger. We went there today on a family hike when Poo Poo was too crowded. First there is the new bridge eliminating the spicy gorge crossing on slippery logs, though that seems welcome. Second the tread has been improved up to the crossing and up to the Nook trail intersection. Third work is going on on the steep section toward the West Tiger RR Grade. Not complete there yet but I note WTA has more work parties scheduled.

The WTA is far too dependent on revenue from trail "maintenance" on DNR land.

If not now, when?

It used to be that most of the people that lived in W. WA grew up here. Nowadays natives are fairly rare. It's all a bunch of young people who've hardly ever been outside coming here to work at tech companies.

Wow, it looks like some wussified NWHikers need to get out into the cold air for some work or play. They might not have to post crap like this thread if they did. Rumi <~~~~~he's a lumberjack and he's ok

.... and which "network" was this? do you mean KOMO or KING or KIRO, all of which employ news anchors who are not from this area? we don't expect them to understand that we are already familiar with the weather patterns here, or how to pronounce "Puyallup".

Perhaps, but they're not laughing nearly as hard as some of us are laughing at the clueless news anchors who honestly believe they need to tell us to "put on a jacket".
