Maybe I am mistaken, but....
Didn't the REI dividend card they send in the mail used to include a 20% off one purchase?
Now, all I get is a 10% store credit for paying REI's jacked up prices all year, and they call it a "co-op".
I get that much or more back from Fred Meyer for being a "member" and Fred Meyer does not claim to be a "co-op".
Add the lack of 20% off one item, a weak 10% rebate, and their much weaker current warranty, coverage, and it seems like I am going to have a hard time figuring out how to spend that huge $13 dividend, which won't bring down the price of most things they carry to normal retail pricing available elsewhere.
It seems that I am finding less and less reason to wander into REI these days.

The sale for 20% off one regular item and one garage sale item starts March 23 and lasts for ten days.

As far as I can see the dividend is the same as always. You can cash it out after July if you wish. The 20% coupon comes with the sale flyer.

REI stopped acting like a real co-op many years ago. They really confused 'biggering' with 'bettering'.

Yeah the change came when Big Jim took over as GM in the 1960s and Larry Penberthy started MSR.

It says on the inside of the dividend mailer "Your coupons are coming March 23-April 9", so chances are they're just mailing them separately.

I see people walking in and out of REI. I assume they buy things.

Lately, I have found myself walking in there a lot, with every intention to buy something, but walk out empty handed and disappointed.....Or just in sticker shock over their markup.

I didn't really look at prices. They have clean restrooms. No complaints.

Biggest refund in years. Lock punched, and pack stolen. Replaced everything. I’m not an expensive rain gear guy. I look
at weight of it first. It was still quite a bit.
And bought snowshoes for Christmas presents.
Add in normal purchases.
I’ll wait for coupon.
Not a trailhead break in. LA Fitness parking lot. Pack and stuff in landfill I assume.

No. People go into REI to try on things and get sizes. Then they leave and order the same thing from Amazon at a much cheaper price. No, the REI dividend isn't going to make up for it.
REI is getting killed by Amazon and other online retailers. With the current boycott against REI, they have just shot themselves in the foot. REI is a disgusting organization. In 2 years the brick and mortar REI stores will be shuttered up and empty.

Didn't Eddie Bauer used to sell outdoor gear before they figured out the big bucks are from clothes?

2016 sales $2.5 B.
I’d guess 2017 will be posted in a month or two.
Boycott. Yeah. Lots of free publicity.
Best.
