Meh. As ThursdayHiker mentioned upthread, it's more about curiosity
If your child's photo were on those walls, and your child suffered and is still suffering because of the abuse, how would you feel about people rubbernecking the site for kicks? It's like when someone did a writeup on the Oso site - some locals freaked out "they're doing a trip report on Oso??" and asked it be taken down. Visit Oso to reflect, same with Wellington, which, unfortunately is annually featured as a halloween hike. But to each his or her own; I was hoping to give another view of visiting a site like that. Or not.

To be clear, my comment about curiosity was referring to the structure itself (which is unique), not the child porn in it. My understanding was that the porn was brought to the structure and then removed by authorities as evidence right before charges were pressed. I'll try to confirm that. If in fact the guy was taking young girls to the cabin then yes, that's a whole different story.

9 months of work release seems quite lenient to me? I thought I read in the original Seattle Times (I think) article that in the digital images found on his electronic devices were images taken of underage girls in the cabin. That points to a far more serious crime than possession of child pornography.
He must have had a good lawyer or that evidence placing them was weak. It's a shame that man is free to roam the mid fork so soon. The amazing redcedar grove it borders is cursed by its proximity. The sooner it's gone, the better.

Possession of child porn is a different crime than producing child porn. My guess is they could not prove (maybe dont know?) where it came from...?

O sure, I understand that. I just feel it’s inappropriate – for me, in my heart, to do what I think of as rubbernecking someone else’s misfortune. Look at the title of the thread. It's not about the fantastic architecture.

Kim, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you don't like horror movies
The original Halloween – not sure that’s considered horror, but the subsequent ones are – but I think it is the perfect scary movie. The original Night of the Living Dead – again, not sure it’s considered horror, but it’s a good flick. But in general no, I don’t care for senseless hacking.

Confirmed that Daniel Wood was only convicted of possession and viewing thereof (2nd degree). He will be released from the jail work-education program in mid-October 2019, followed by 24 months of probation.

He is not necessarily roaming free. He's in the King County Work & Education Release program, which allows him to go to his job during the day, but he is in jail at all other times. There are very strict rules with that program - anyone who breaks them goes back to jail 24/7. The FBI collected multiple DNA samples from him that were used to connect him to the cabin. The standard sentencing range for a second degree offender with no previous criminal history runs 3-9 months. There have to be "aggravating circumstances" to sentence someone above the standard range. He received the upper end of the standard range. He will undergo court-ordered treatment and have to register as a sex offender upon his release.

Kim, I find this structure interesting for a lot of reasons and child pornography is not one of them. When I stumbled on this place in 2015, I had no idea that child porn was even involved. The images on the walls are of young partially naked forest nymphs. The images are paintings and cartoon images and not photographs. There are pentagrams and bats blood ink and potion books. Super creepy but also interesting. The structure is well built and has features such as latin inscriptions carved into the deck that add to the intrigue. The weirdo who built the place was arrested for child porn but that is definitely not the attraction...

What!?
Sorry I should have clarified a bit more - my earlier post might also clarify. I agree with the concern regarding the existence of this thing, and was responding to the comments about people visiting. I also pointed out additional hazards this type structure presents, and was attempting to convey that I have some training in recognizing (and mitigating) those. See - some of us believe in proper training! Any law enforcement officer probably recognizes these hazards, so I'm befuddled about why it's still standing - My guess: Inept Bureaucracy. Also, I was hoping it was gone when set out to find the (YUCK!) location. Oh well.

Vertec, please stop injecting your views on personal safety at every opportunity. There is a reason why we have dedicated threads to discuss these topics. We do not need to be lectured about what you feel is "proper".

The building and inscriptions on the bench might be great and all but why has no one torn it down, so he cant go right back to it. Heck, someone tell me how to find it and I will do it myself. Really, serious.

Has anyone else looked into this case more? I'm not finding any proof that this creep even exists. There's nothing on him showing mugshots and he isn't even listed as a sex offender. The house remains but has fallen over. Most if not all of the belongings are still there and a bag of bullets were found by a YouTuber who investigated the scene recently. Its as if the cabin was never fully searched. Apparently the man was supposed to spend 9 months in jail but was let out on a work release after only 6 months.

OK that's pretty sick. Not only did this youtuber go there but he included zoomed in shots of paintings/art of naked young girls? Surely the authorities *did* search for and remove the actual porn, i.e., actual photos of real, abused girls. But posting this is bad enough. Please remove.

I skimmed the video and while it's a creepy subject it has some documentary value. It assume it meets youtuble guidelines which are quite similar to the terms here. You can always report it to youtube if you feel it crosses the line.
