The only one I saw yesterday. All by itself.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I went in search for a calypso orchid as well, in its usual location, but I guess I was too early.

The Ski Hill trails are littered with glacier lilies right now. Also spied a few arrowleaf balsamroot in bloom near Cashmere on the south-facing slope above the highway.

Wow! The blue I think is Oregon anemone. The other; looks like a lewisia of some sort. or many locoweed of some kind. It's apparent I don't know for sure about that!

I checked my book and it looks like you are right, Kim. The blue flower does match the Oregon anemone description and the lewisia matches a picture of Columbia lewisia. Thanks!

Kim and Nancyann are right. This is Lewisia columbiana. I usually only see it east of the Cascade crest. But I ran into it once on the western side. It was while climbing Hozomeen. Hozomeen lies in the rain shadow of the mountains to its west. There were also some Ponderosa pine sharing the flora on that slope.

Yet another balsamroot, above the Yakima. Beautiful hike, lots of flowers, a few snakes.
