I've never been to Hyak and am planning to do a brief snow trip there this afternoon carrying my son.
I'm a little confused about the Hyak sno-park vs the now-closed ski area. It looks like there should be plenty of free parking around the ski area, right?
Also, should I expect significant downhill skiers on summit east or central? Not sure if people take the effort of skinning up here after the ski area closes? Depending on this I might take the Nordic Pass route vs going up from Summit Central finding my own way up.
Thanks!
You can park at any of the central/west/hyak lots for free at this point. There will probably be a few skiers out and about, but wouldn't expect too many.
We parked at Silver Fir where there was only one other car (a friendly cross-country skier we ran into). We went up the Outback, then followed the East Connector and from there I messed up my route to Radio Mountain and we ended up doing a little lollipop around Rockdale Lake. Super fun afternoon and still plenty of snow to have fun there.
