If you could put little bit informative summary about GIMP that would be cool and helpful
GIMP is an open software project that has been around for a very long time. I used it a little in the mid 90s as a free version of Photoshop. I haven't used it since, but I still think it fills that niche. From the website:

I think GIMP and GNU date back to the day unisys was claiming a patent onLZW data compression used in GIF image format. They wanted to charge $0.30 for every image uploaded. An open source alternative was needed, eventually the patent expired and unisys became another company.
