I snagged an almost-new SMD lunar solo on facebook yesterday for cheap. Its looks like the seams were sealed when it was not pitched taut. Of course I had to go and pull on the fabric along the seams which left ridges of seam sealer on either side. There's also a lot of excess sealer on the tent in some places. Is there any reasonably easy way to get this off and start over, or does anyone have other suggestions on how to deal with it? It pains me to think about carrying around all those extra ounces of sealer bawl.gif

Surely, you meant to say "extra few grams of sealer" right? Scrape off what you can without damaging the fabric or seams. Properly seam seal with a syringe, concentrating the sealant in the seams. Be happy you got a nice tent for cheap. Go backpacking with your new tent. Profit!

I think once it's dried it's impossible to get off without some kind of damage to the tent. The excess probably will flake off with time though.

Check that the seams are water tight by setting it up and spraying with a garden hose. Then if its tight, ignore the extra thickness.

Any solvent (Acetone) that can remove silicone would also damage the silicon coating on the nylon fabric. I have this same SMD Lunar Solo tent; it one that takes practice to get a good taut pitch. So no real surprise it was less than taut when it was first seam sealed. Locating the 5 body stakes correctly is simply not automatic, it takes some adjustment and practice. I can put up my TarpTent Contrail in about 1 minute perfectly every time. Some tents are just inherently easier to pitch correctly.
