Great idea!
I went out to Queets this past Saturday with my packraft. Parked at Streater Crossing and hiked the Queets road to the ranger station then took the Sam's loop trail to the Queets CG. I put in just downstream from Sam's rapids. RT time was about 4.5 hours.
The USGS gauge was not operating correctly over the weekend but I'd estimate the flow was between 2500-3000 CFS. Weather was perfect, didn't see another soul once I got on the river. Growlers were apparently overhead but I only observed contrails, no noise from the jets at any point.
Not sure how to best share photos using icloud so here's a link if anyone is interested.

Great idea. Basically off-trail exploring under human power.

Nice images, BU. I especially love the one of the Kevlar (Wenonah) canoe with the pup in the back. But what's with the kayak paddles?!

The canoe is one of my sisters and her husband, and dog Zeke. They have found they prefer the kayak paddles in the canoe to canoe paddles. No one has come up with a good enough reason to not use the kayak paddles. And that canoe weighs less than most kayaks.

If they're happy using kayak paddles, that's what counts!

You can talk about kayaks here? heh cool! I got a new boat earlier this season...would you care to meet her? The story: after logging about 50 nervous miles in The Death Needle, a.k.a. "Old Tippy..." ...I traded her in on a more traditional, stabler design, and now I motor around in Mello Yello! ...under bridges... ...through locks... ...under more bridges... ...under still more bridges... ...through peaceful suburbs... ...and bustling ports... She takes me everywhere and she's lots of fun. But the best part....MERMAID! hahaha
Happy Paddling! cu on the water!

Glad to see ya'll on the water.
Retirement LLC funds paid for a commercial trip down the Selway River in Idaho last week. My 2nd time; daughter's 1st. Magic. One launch per day enforced!
I brought my IK/duckie and used it for about half the trip but some of the Class IV's and Moose Juice just too much swim risk.
Sorry no pics. Kayaks and paddle rafts are the worst ever photographic platforms.

Thanks. Devil's Creek is just unreal. I had no idea that thing was there, either. I think anyone that hikes the East Bank Trail must, must, MUST bring a packraft and explore it.
It was stupid hot the entire four days, though. Usually, staying cool while kayaking isn't a problem but the third day especially all of us just wanted to lie in the lake when we got to camp.

Sweet pictures. I need to get back there again. I just got back from three smoke-filled days canoeing and camping at Baker lake. No decent pictures, but I have finally perfected my motorized canoe project. I crossed Baker lake to Maple Grove camp, a full mile, in just under seven minutes, fully loaded with luxury camping equipment. The canoe turns just by leaning, so I don't even have to reach back to the motor very often. I prefer the quiet exercise of paddling, but I also like getting somewhere quickly, sometimes.
I have a 14 ft Mad River Tahoe, 57 lbs in Royalex, flat bottom and wide for excellent stability. I am able to get it on and off the car by myself. The motor is a 2.5 hp Suzuki four stroke, rated ultra low emissions, weighs 30 lbs, attached to a home made motor mount.

Any pictures of that rig? Sounds great. Would you be allowed to land it at the camps on Ross Lake or are they paddle only?

Ross lake and Diablo lake allow motors. The resort rents motor boats, and from Canada you can launch larger boats. Though the lake is managed by North Cascades NP, the rules for the Ross Lake NRCA are different from wilderness rules. But the rules they have are strictly and vigorously enforced. All camping in assigned designated camps (per the rangers in Marblemount), all tents on the tent pads, all food in the bear boxes. A tip: go in middle-late June, before fishing season starts on July 1st.

I have started to join the dark side and I am going up the learning curve on learning to SUP.
I like the different perspective from being up higher, standing up. The SUP is definitely a lot more work than the pedal kayak. But its a whole lot easier to get two 20 pound boards on top of the car, than two 65pound pedal kayaks (85 pounds each, once loaded and setup for the water).
Age 65 is probably not the best time in life to be learning to balance on a SUP, but what the heck, I am not getting any younger.
