So you went up towards Elbow Basin.
How was the trail past 3800 feet? Lots of downed logs or was it logged out on the ridge trail?

Love those Pasayten mountain photos and can’t wait to get back up there, now just have to figure out which burned trailheads, if any, will be accessible.

I got one near May Creek a couple years ago. Never leave home without my tick puller these days.

I got my first tick bite on the East Bank trail back in April. Fortunately it hadn't burrowed in yet. Ick.
RE: Pasayten trails...WTA has multiple volunteer trips up in the Pasayten this year, including Andrews Creek - Spanish Camp (through some of the burn); Horseshoe Basin; Middle Fork Pasayten; Pasayten airstrip (and heading out west/east on the Boundary trail); and Buckskin Ridge. All of these are open to volunteers. Some of the trips have waitlists right now. The Middle Fork trip is still open -- it's a youth volunteer vacation. The Boundary Trail is part of WTA's Lost Trails Found campaign.
WTA, BCHW, PNTA and PCTA are all working together as a coalition on Pasayten trails as well.

The Harlequin Duck is one of the most beautiful birds in the world. I mostly think of them as salt-water ducks, so it's always a surprising treat to see them in the mountains.
I want to extend my thanks again to the surreptitious heroes who cleaned-out the mess of lodgepole pine on Three Fools Creek. We came down through that in autumn 2012, and my intrepid corgi Al woke up lame at Devil's Ck CG next morning. We tried to continue up Devil's Dome, but I finally realized he wasnot having fun, so I made a sling and carried him out 17 miles. I think he may have tweaked his leg in the tangles while I was re-finding the trail. Took him almost a year to heal. I was consumned with guilt.
So I had a personal vendetta, wanted to get back there and log it out, but never got around to it. I wanted to do it openly and legit, and there was a ranger (Hartsock) who was sympathetic and helpful, but there was just too much bureaucracy.
That big loop was really fun -- you get up to Castle Pass in September on the PCT and meet people who started in Mexico and are now miles and hours from their goal, and you get a huge contact high.
