Find a map and drive (or walk) to BLM land. In fact, I think the Marsupials and areas to climbers right are on BLM land, so a person could camp there (or at least bivy) and there's nothing the Oregon State Parks could say, but they would certainly try.
But again, find a map so you know management boundrys

Smith is super strict about where you can camp (nowhere except the designated paid campground near the parking area). They have rangers patrolling constantly, so you'll probably get busted if you try to stealth camp. It's not a large area and there aren't many places you can hide without someone walking up on you at some point.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying to camp inside the park but outside the campground. I'm saying you can camp on BLM land where you want, even if it's next to the park. I used to have Deschutes iMap system (or whatever they use) dialed, but I've lost that skill.

You could always just plunk down in the huge homeless tent camps on the NorthEast side of Bend. Cops never hassle the folks camping in that area.....much to the chagrin of the surrounding residents.
It is only an easy half hour drive to Smith Rock. Lots of good comradery and you can pick up a high end bike for a smokin' deal while you are there.
