I`ve been up that trail a bunch usually with my kids and often in early season and agree I usually haven`t seen more than a handful of people every time. Seems like backpacking and dayhiking are in now with the millenials as I am seeing lots more people everywhere (and most seem to be in their 20s and 30s). Oh well, mixed bag I guess. Bad for solitude but good for long term wilderness and park preservation...
In my youth, I spent part of a summer on the Dose driving a pumper truck patrolling along the Rocky Brook road. I bunked in with the guard whose job it was to patrol the road up the Dosewallips and to maintain the Elk Horn Campground. My wife and I drove around the Peninsula back in the 90s, camped at the state park and was able to drive the full length of the road all the way to the end. When did it wash out, and was it above or below the EH Campground?
