First time up this one. I don't know how I overlooked it for so long. Despite the gentle-sounding name this mountain doesn't mess around. It's not quite as steep as Mailbox but it's still pretty steep. The trail is unmaintained and doesn't get as much traffic as other I-90 peaks, so it's not very well defined in some places. There's also no signage so you need to know what you're looking for. The summit area kinda reminded me of Teneriffe's -- with a dash of Bandera. Surprisingly there's still a lot of snow up there. At the very least I would recommend gortex boots (not trail runners), poles and some kind of traction. Maybe even an ice axe if you head up when the snow is still firm. I was happy to have my whippet. I only encountered six people up there, which is practically nothing for an I-90 peak. None of them were prepared for the conditions, and two of them turned around as soon as they hit the steep snow sections. I don't know about the other four but I suspect they did as well.

If you liked Humpback, you'll like its neighbor Bearscout too. You're almost guaranteed to have that one to yourself.

That one's way out there. I don't see an official trail on the map. I'm guessing go up to Scout Patrol Peak and head SE along the ridge?

Humpback is one of my go-to trails in the winter. Short, steep and usually quiet. I've done it once in the summer as well...made it into a loop by heading down from the summit to Scout Lake and back to the road. Some fun off-trail travel on easy terrain.

There are bits of trail on the ridge from Scout Patrol or you can take a shorter route up to the saddle above Scout Lake which is the way I'll go if I ever head up there agin.

I went up the only way I know of -- straight up the ridge.

Nope. I've been up Silver Peak but it was via the PCT.

Excellent!
I'm not very familiar with the peaks "down south." What is that attractive spire in the center distance, please? Looks like a mini Mustagh Tower.

Kaleetan. It's not nearly as steep as it looks. It's a fun, non-technical scramble. https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8015434

Thanks. I've hiked right past it but didn't recognise it from this view.
