The gist: Foss River Road to Maloney Mountain road (NF-6840) to Evans Lake TH road; snow is covering road to at least 2 miles before fisherman's trail at end of Evans Lake road. For the most part I followed b00/Matt's trip report for this peak from '15 (thanks guys).
My fears of a post-holing nightmare did not come to pass. Snow was somewhat soft but manageable--even without poles (I forgot them in the living room, staying true to my bonehead nature). There were still some sketchy looking cornices above Rock Lake and west of the summit, but I don't think they pose any danger if you are on route. Used snow shoes to walk the early morning road and the first ridge, but left them on the pack the rest of the day. No snow on any of the summit scrambling. Incredible day to be alive in the cascades...
the road
Rock Lake
Panorama Lake and environs
Summit shot: stay as left as practical here and traverse to the clearing just west of the summit block (not the true col)
From the clearing just west of the summit block. Standard route is on the right, but apparently there is another route on the left (not pictured).
Beauties of the Cascade Crest!
The only signed page in the register. It's been a minute since someone signed it...
Inevitable summit selfie... way too excited
Pt 6208 in the foreground. Has anyone climbed this? There is somewhat interesting scrambling on the N side...
I didn't notice this on the road walk approach but I was probably daydreaming; it's about 1 mile from end of Evans Lake road
