Hi all, We are planning on a 4 day backpack trip to Garibaldi Lake in early August and doing day trips out the Garibaldi Lake camp. We are planning on doing the usual: Panorama Ridge, Black Tusk. However, are there quieter day trips out of there since Panorama and Black Tusk are sure to be crowded? Secondly, are there good topo maps/apps that one would recommend? thanks kv

Caltopo has both CanMatrix and NR Canada. It also has a number of user-created "shared maps" that provide tracklines for most of the destinations you mentioned. It's definitely worth checking out.

Check out Mt. Price. Also try and go up to Garibaldi Lake during the week, as it's a bit of a gong show on the weekends.

I second that. DO NOT go near there on a weekend.....Have a friend who is a ranger up there and most summer weekends see close to two thousand people (day hikers and backpackers). Our provincial parks are so underfunded that trails, toilets, campsites, etc are a disgrace. Also, most trailheads along that corridor have super high breakin rates. Take passports and all valuables with you.

Yes. We are there Mon-Friday and leave Friday AM. Will it be safe to leave a car camping tent in the car?

Ditto about weekend busyness. If you still want to visit that particular area and are comfortable with a bit of off trail travel, Gentian Peak/Pass to the east of Panorama Ridge is pleasant, or traveling south from Mt. Price down to the meadows and flats at the head of Culliton Creek below Mt. Garibaldi. Of course, my personal recommendation for the Sea-to-Sky corridor is Salal Creek/Athelney Pass. A longer drive, but definitely worth it. See this report (not my own)

Kind of sounds like the other side of the border, both underfunded public lands and jackasses breaking into cars.

This does sound awesome. I'll consult my trip mates and see if I can cancel my reservation at Garibaldi.

Just don't leave anything in your car you are not prepared to lose. Replacing a car window is dirt simple. Replacing something you value, not so much. If you've never been, the entire Garibaldi area is stunning, totally worth a visit. But you won't be alone.

Looks like Salal Creek is too much for some in our party. We'll try the other suggestions though and hope for a little more quiet since we are there during the week. thanks V

If you haven't already, might be worth asking on the ClubTread website.
