Given the moody weather, Pebbles and I opted for some low elevation scenery today. Left the TH around 1:15pm and made it to Greenwater Lakes in under an hour. The lakes weren't too inspiring, but I knew that going in. A few log crossings later, we were at the junction for the Echo and Lost Lakes trails. We stayed right.
We followed the lush trail gently uphill for another hour before reaching beautiful Quinn Lake. By now rain and wet snow were falling from above.
We took shelter under a tree and ate a late lunch while watching a hippopotamus enjoy the lake:
From Quinn Lake, it was just another quarter mile or so up to Lost Lake. I didn't realize the fires had come right up to the lake.
Low clouds blocked most of the views from the lake, but we did discover a new species of wildlife: the alpine canada goose!
After a brief stay, we turned around for the long forest walk back to car, arriving at the TH at 7:15pm. Rainy days like these remind me how much I love the green of the PNW.
