cabinet aka pt6882 5-24-2018
can you say great views?
although we did it after the road opened, it also would be an excellent peak to do using a bicyle approach right before the road opened. a little bit of brush, but not bad. a must see summit.
quick and dirty route info: park pull-out near cabinet creek, hike road to se side of cabinet creek, follow game trails paralleling the creek to 3900', ascend s to ridge. take ridge to 5800' and then take easiest terrain on ridge or e side of it to summit. class 2.
5.41mi 3791' gain
3:40 car to summit
1:49 summit stay
2:31 summit to car
8:00 car to car
equipment: ice axe(cal did not use)
equipment brought, but not used: crampons

Nice! I did Cabinet a few years ago. It's quite the hidden gem. I actually found some old brown bottles (maybe from the 60s?) on that ridge line.

I used your directions for a successful summit bid today on Cabinet. Got off route on the downclimb though. Not a big deal as the low angled forest is forgiving to get back to SR-20. Plus the out of the way track allowed me to find a bear skull. With the bear season having started on Aug 1st it is only fitting.

I found a huge femur near cabinet, and presumed it was from a bear. But just the femur, no other bones nearby. Boot is womens size 8 for scale.
