I happened to catch KCTS's broadcast of The American Experience documentary about Rachel Carson two nights ago. "Everyone knows" that Rachel Carson and her book "Silent Spring", published in 1962, were a major impetus for the environmental movement of the 60's and the formation of the EPA. But how many have read the book, (ashamed to admit I have not) much less know anything about Rachel Carson's life, and how much she and the book were pilloried on its publication? The program includes mind-boggling footage of liberal DDT application methods, and a segue into 60's nuclear testing, when the gov't was minimizing "fallout" impacts. I believe PBS allows a newly-broadcast doc to stream for free for at least a week; but probably not longer than a month. Highly recommend!
