Sparse tree cover and no snow on route. Pretty much like a desert right now. The Cathedral jump had my adrenaline going but after 10 minutes we found a class 4 route around it, down and to the right then used the easy jump for the way out. We followed Jake Robinson's route to Remmel then went straight down a class 2/3 gully from just south of the summit to near Andrew Pass. So much ash and bugs and burnt forest... burned me out.
Thanks to Josh and Masayo for their patience and excellent leadership.
🤙Nice did you happen to see if there was any ongoing work on the Peepsight trail ?
No more work is needed on the Peepsight Trail coming up from Andrews. I went up it a couple weeks ago and it's been cleared out from the bottom all the way until about 1/2 mile or so from the Peepsight/Rock junction. (there was one spot with new blowdowns) The area that wasn't cleared doesn't have near the number of downed trees and being more open they are easy to get around. The Preston Ridge trail was in the same shape it has been for years, and most likely will never be maintained again. Not sure it was ever officially on the USFS inventory any ways.
The Backcountry horse groups did a bang up job reopening the Peepsight trail!!
Nice! I was going to be up there over the weekend, but went to the Oly's instead. I decided to save this for (hopefully) cooler temps in early fall, with all the exposure and dust I keep imagining on that hike in. You said it burned you out - was it that bad?
It still looks gorgeous nonetheless.
Did you guys pack in some cans of chili? I think that was your camp that Hiking Partner’s dog went to check out up at Andrews Pass Monday afternoon. And I think Josh and I chatted with each other at Upper Cathedral Lake earlier in the morning, without even recognizing each other.
