Tatoosh Range in MRNP: Plummer, Denman, and Foss
Wanted to take advantage of the last month of my annual MRNP pass so headed in to do some peaks in the Tatoosh. I had only done a winter climb of Pinnacle Peak in the Tatoosh and figured it was time for some more exploring. The webcam the day before showed reasonable air quality, but I think overnight the smoke and haze filled in. I could smell the woodsmoke in spots on the drive in, but it wasn’t too bad at Reflection Lakes. I try not to hike much if I can smell the woodsmoke because it irritates my lungs. I also felt with the incoming front for Saturday things might clear out. It did clear out little by little through the day.
I climbed Plummer first. Plummer is a very nice summit if you want to take folks on a short hike.

After Plummer, I explored the faint trail to the base of Pt 5810. I also explored up Lane Peak in a couple of spots but didn't finish off the scramble to the summit. On my return to the Plummer/Denman saddle, I followed the trail up to Denman’s summit.

It was now getting really hot, and I refilled water on the lingering snowfields. It was quite unpleasant hiking for me in the heat, but I just took it slow and easy the rest of the day. I wanted to hike up Foss next. I hiked the trail to the Pinnacle/Castle saddle dropped down to the lake/tarn and then picked up the trail that takes you to the tarn below Foss. It was interesting seeing the ebb and flow of the fire smoke from the fire across the way.

Foss was a nice summit and most of the heavy haze and smoke had cleared. I enjoyed the summit then headed back.
Blueberries are just about ripe.

Nice outing, Justus. Sad to see a fire in the park, but no place is immune it seems.

The smoke is gnarly, good thing it isn't as bad as last year though (yet)
