Anyone have any recommendations for day hikes around Boise? Maybe an overnighter that can't be missed? Thanks!

I grew up in the Boise area, and close by... there's not much. All the good stuff is quite the drive, Sawtooths, White Clouds, Pioneer Range, etc. There are a few lakes and foresty locations closer. Is a three hour drive too far? What kind of trip you looking for? Lake destination? Class 3 scramble? Summit views?

Three hour drive for an awesome scramble isn't too much. Class three with good views are the best!

The southwest face of Cobb Peak (Pioneer Range) was one of my favorite scrambles in Idaho. Not the popular and standard west ridge route, but straight up the SW face as a choose your own adventure kind of scramble. 3000+ vertical feet of class 3/4. It was awesome. Old Hyndman is supposed to have a great scramble up the east face (black rock dike), and Hyndman is the tallest in the area, but class 2. Those three are all in the same area and you could do a day or multiple days for any of those three. Sawtooths have some great scrambles. Thompson (highest in the Sawtooths) and Williams (right next door) are both fun scrambles that could be done in a day or could be combined for an over night trip. A classic overnight trip would be Sawtooth Lake, climbing either/or Alpine Peak (class 3) or Regan (class 4). Also, the Grand Mogul was an interesting scramble with great views from the summit and didn't take all that long if you take the water taxi across the lake. Castle Peak in the White Clouds is a great scramble up the south face from Chamberlain Basin, but might need to do 2 days. I did the not advised due to rock fall danger Big Gully fro the NE, but the south face is much safer. You could also climb Borah, highest peak in Idaho, which is mostly steep class 2 but has class 3 potential towards the top. Also, here is a link to some fun class 3 in Idaho.

There are several fires in Idaho right now so you may want to take that into consideration when planning unless you don't mind the smoke. http://www.idahofireinfo.com/p/maps.html
