Hello, everyone! We are a young couple who dedicates themselve to creating photo and video content, as well as our own music. Our content is related to travelling and adventures. We are passionate walkers who love hiking, trekking and camping. Our goal is to promote the healthy lifestyle, to motivate people to walk more and care for nature around. That day started on another beautiful sunny and warm morning on the coast. When we started walking the first thing we saw was the spectacular beach with the rocks in the water that in the morning light looked even greater. The waves were crushing into the shore creating lots of foam and it was truly mesmerising. We were learning more and more about ocean and getting to know it better and better. We haven't seen such kind of waves before and now we were definetely realizing that it was smth bigger and stronger than a sea. There were lots of surfers enjoying this kind of weather. We walked into the French border city of Hendaye and did a huge round because of the big bay of water that mostly is formed by the river and some port facilities. There is even the bird life that is frequently seen in the ponds and rivers like the herons and ducks. We walked along the city in the peaceful route by the water and got to the bridge where the actual border is. So we crossed the border and got into the city of Irun from the Spanish side and that's where we started seeing the indicators of the official Camino del Norte that we are taking. We were having a plan of getting into city and doing lots of things like going in the bank, buying groceries, printing some documents etc. But the most important thing that happened was receiving the pilgrim credentials. The couple that was from South Korea helped us to get them because it was a siesta time and the church was closed so they had to knock on doors of the building nearby for the Padre to came out. He was very kind and gave us several papers to fill out with identification information and wished us a good luck in completing the Camino. From now on we have the official proof of going through all the stages of the Way. When we were done in the city we finally started to get out of it and it wasn't very fast until the route started to go between the field lands. The weather was super hot and it was kind of annoying to walk uphill on the road with cars (even though it wasn't very busy) but in addition to all of that my right knee started to hurt, throwback to childhood trauma, the timing couldn't be worse. Cause we still had to walk 9 km as planned. Finally we got out of pavement and walked into the forest. Here we decided to get away from official Camino del Norte trail and hike along the oceanside. Because we wanted to get some epic ocean views and enjoy the scenery that we are here for and the weather was very favourable with no wind. And we were a bit tired from pavement routes with cars and wanted to get away from it. In order to do so we had to go quite a steep downhill to get to the shore and then the route started twisting along the water. Soon we realized that this Way is much longer and harder than the official one and this way we won't get to our destination as planned. But we didn't regret it at all because of the stunning scenery, the nature at all its best and we even met the horses pasturing and that made it even more special. So it was 100 percent worth it. And we got our first real uphills and downhills and really put into test our backpacks set up and overall the physical form. At the end of the day we knew we are going to be stealth camping and had to search for the spot. It was very challenging because the ground was very uneven and covered with needle bushes and hard strong grass. Finally we found the spot in the trees probably flattened out by horses pasturing(thank you horses) without any vegetation and covered in dry pine needles. It was close to some dirt road which we were afraid of the people and even cars passing by but we were good camouflaged surrounded by forest and our tent is grey so you'll never see it from the side in the dark. So we decided to cook and have dinner first and then start to set up a tent in the dusk. And we did so accompanied by another beautiful sunset and the red sun dissapearing in the water painting everything around in beautiful colors. Watch the full video here:

I've never really thought about doing El Camino but your videos are enticing. There is some spectacular scenery in this video and it doesn't look crowded at all. That coastline is gorgeous. Nice video production. up.gif

We are really happy that it inspires you to have a different look on the Camino. We ourselves weren't sure whether it is for us or no but then decided to do it our own way by not staying in the albergues and camping instead and chose Camino del Norte instead of Frances that is way more crowded. Thank you, we are always trying to do our best:)

Follow us on this insane hiking trip where we testing our endurance constantly diving into the snow and conquering the steep mountain having no special equipment. Also join us for the cosy warm night in the beautiful cabin in the woods where we give you a detailed tour of this wonderful place. The day started with a beautiful sunny weather and us hiking the well known trail leading to the peak of Puigmal. But this time our goal was to reach the cabin "Refuge de la Matte" hided somewhere in the forest that we found last autumn and decided to come back here in winter. The timing couldnīt be more perfect for this hike. We had the major snowfall and freezing temperatures for more than a week and we thought it would be just a perfect excuse to spend the night in the forest cabin enjoying the winter fairytale. So we easily hiked the road part of the trail that had the car tracks on it and turned to the forest path with an untouched snow. At first there were some ski tracks but then they quickly dissapeared and our snow fun started. All the time we were diving into the snow but it was nothing compared to what started later. By the way we werenīt wearing any special equipment like snowshoes or skies, because we just donīt have enough experience with them and a little experience that we had wasnīt successful. So we got to the river quite well, already a bit wet. And then only the steep uphill was ahead of us that we had to conquer in order to get to the cabin. And it is worth mentioning that even without snow last autumn we couldnīt find any marking of the trail that hypothetically exists there. Only relying on our offline GPS map and the marked point that we did for finding this very remote cabin we could determine our location and direction we should go to. And we were always wandering how this cabin was constructed and how all the materials were carried to this remote location, only the helicopter comes to mind considering the very hard or even non-existing trails leading to it. So right from the start we were falling heavily into snow and we realized that it wil be the crazy hiking adventure. But we weren't going to stop anyway cause we had a goal for a day and we had to do it. Of course when we decided to do this trip we didn't know it was going to be so hard, hoping for having some ski or snowshoe tracks but apparently it wasn't the case so we had to deal with it. We don't know how many times we fell and rose and rose and fall and our fierceful spirit was about to give up but we did it. We were completely wet and miserable after 3 hours of climbing, our hands and legs were freezing and we regretted not having the ski poles for the support. But nonetheless we did it. And we had the feeling that we did something impossible pushing the human physical limits. But it was a beautiful feeling of accomplishment. When we got to the cabin we saw that there is plenty of wood already collected by someone that we felt very grateful for. So that we could put up a fire immediately and start drying our clothes and warming up. Then all we did was having dinner and being comfortable and warm putting ourselves to sleep. The cabin itself is a moderately new construction(was built just 5 or 6 years ago) made out of wood and quite good insulated. We loved the fact that everything inside was wooden - it remained warm for a very long time. All the furniture inside wasn't new but it gave the interior this authentic look and feel of the real forest cabin. It has just about everything you need from axe and saw to the plenty of cooking stuff and food. There were loads of pans and sartens, water, rice, coffee, spices, candles and even the camping gas. So if you were out in the woods with no supplies this cabin would be a lifesaver. The sleeping area is located on the second floor that is the warmest place in the cabin and has a huge amount of space with some carpets and a mat. Also we loved the fireplace that was extracting the smoke quite well and was giving away so much heat at the same time. So in our opinion it is a perfect example and a great role model for all the cabins in the woods. So we had a very warm night and at first it was too hot so we had to put the fire out. But the rest of night was nice and warm and even in the morning the little fire was still going on. We shooted the quick cabin tour, had our rice with mushrooms for breakfast and then started to think about how we are going to go down this hill on our way back. We didn't want to be all wet again so we decided to use the garbage bags (that was all we had) to wrap up our boots for at least a little bit of protection. So we said goodbye and thank you to the little house that gave us a warm welcome and started to descend back. The descend back took us half of the time of the way up but we can't say it was easier. It was definetely challenging the other muscles of the body and balance and we probably fell another 100 times and were sliding on our butts a lot. The day was warmer so the snow was quite a bit more slippery. At the time we got down we had lost one mat, tore several things but we thought that it wasn't too bad and at least we were healthy and safe. It was definetely the most challenging experience we've had so far. These several kms uphill in the snow were more difficult than conquering the peak (that we though was the hardest). So this experience pushed our limits and tested our endurance levels and it will be remembered for the longest time. The brightest memory of the winter 2019. Watch the full video here:

So, could you, at least, say where the heck you are hiking? In the U.S.? Here in the Pacific NW?

If all of your trip reports are international and none are in the pacific northwest, you might want to find a more appropriate forum to post them in.

The third sentence gives the location of the trip, to anyone not too lazy to use Google. As far as the " more appropriate forum", who made you boss of trip reports? How dare you try to drive away content producers? Maybe you should find another website to pollute with your unwanted spray?

I agree. I welcome all trip reports from anywhere. The variety is great. As with everything else, if you don't want to read it, don't click on it. A clear title with location would be helpful.

Interesting! I have always envisioned that ski huts in Europe, any of them, would see a lot of visitation. Winter sports in Europe seem to be practiced by a larger percentage of the population than in N.A. Did you need to reserve the hut?, or is it first come, first serve? Is it a public hut, or private? Thanks for posting!

Nature exists with a stark indifference to humans' situation.

While being snowed in this last week I have enjoyed watching your Camino hike with it's blue ocean and hot weather. I bet you thought of those days while slogging through the snow. I like seeing reports from places I will probably never go to, but can dream about.

I realize they are using NWHikers to garner more likes for their videos, but I don’t think it causes any problems for the forum. People can just scroll on by if they are not interested. I posted my Switzerland trip reports recently because I thought a handful of readers might find them interesting or may be planning a trip to that region and would find them useful. smile.gif
