One of my favorites. Per Wikipedia "this song was originally recorded by Stevie Wonder in 1967, but his version was not released as a single and did not appear on an album until 1977's anthology Looking Back. The most well-known version of this song is the 1973 release by Aretha Franklin." More to follow. ~z

used to have that vinyl LP shown in the first post- played it to death. Aretha was a regular feature on the old KJR 950 AM. always loved this one with Jimmy Johnson and Joe South on the guitars:

"I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach. I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each."

Skylark--"One of Aretha's finest recordings. Originally from the Columbia release- 'Laughing On The Outside' (1963)" per the YouTube post. This one is quite remarkable. Sort of a fusion of Jazz and Blues. ~z

And finally this one... Of her more recent appearances, I liked this one the best. She's performing at a 2014 concert in the White House--Women of Soul. The entire thing is worth watching, but Aretha's appearance brings the house down--especially starting at minute 04:45. Her vocalizations and energy are amazing. Enjoy. ~z

Lincoln Center, 2015, tribute to Carole King https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=aretha+franklin+natural+woman+lincoln+center&view=detail&mid=47169285FBF89103651D47169285FBF89103651D&FORM=VIRE Legend.

It is as though I had read a divine text, written into the world itself, not with letters but rather with essential objects, saying: Man, stretch thy reason hither, so thou mayest comprehend these things. Johannes Kepler

Her music inspired and delighted many of us particularly for me in the Sixties and Seventies. Such a great spirit and amazing voice. Farewell, Aretha. ~z

She was a class act. RIP Queen of Soul
