With all the SAR talk that goes on around here, and since some have expressed frustration that we never get the whole story/outcome, I thought I'd post this blog from Yosemite. It has start to finish stories and is a good read.

This is awesome, thanks. One of the most helpful things posted on the subject lately.

I remember reading past issues of the Seattle Mountain Rescue newsletter and the extremely interesting and helpful accident reports therein. They updated their website recently and those don’t seem to be available anymore, or at least I can’t find them. Does anyone know what’s up with this and if they can still be found?

Thanks for posting that Yosemite blog link. I find it really interesting to read the analysis, and it seems that the authors are truly trying to educate people about what they could learn from others without overly criticizing the folks who needed help.

According to an SMR friend, they no longer do the newsletter. You can find some of the older newsletters here.

If anyone visits Yosemite, I can't recommend this evening program in the theater highly enough. I wish more parks had this. It's graphic (blood, photos of the person that was about to get swept to their death), quite sad (hearing about toddlers swept over waterfalls, and how the mom helped the park create signage with her story afterwords) and very effective. Nothing is sugar coated and lots of people die. It scared the crap out of me; this is what really made me buy a PLB.

The story of the dog rescue is my favorite. All that hassle, for want of a 6 foot leash.
