We got lucky with great weather, crowds concentrated on the climbing route and PCT sections only, and wonderful scenery. We stuck to the "normal" loop with one exception: taking a cross country route on the north side of the mountain, opting to stay high under the Lava and Lyman glaciers instead of dropping low into the forest. It was mostly solid and all non-technical. We found the XC section across the Yakama Reservation to be fairly straightforward, though it appears we went a different route than many.

I don't think I'll do any more PNW volcano circumnavs... I'm not as crazy as WillisWall doing Baker...

Nice looking trip, and it doesn't look like the smoke was that bad, all things considered.

Yup! There were at least a few areas where it appeared fordable (knee depth or below for 5'10").

The Yakama are still posting that their side of the mountain is closed. Were you able to get a permit from them or did you just go?

I'm still hoping a Mt. Baker route opens up in my lifetime. Does anyone know what the big hurdles to this are?
I did the Adams route in July and as far as I could ascertain, no permits are needed as long as you pass through in one day and don't stay the night. Interestingly, there are tons of camps in Springs Meadow (which seem to have large bonfires which burn all the trees), a climber camp at Sunrise Camp, and a few near the big moraine skier's right at the head of Hellroaring Meadows.
Big Muddy was about mid-thigh about 200meters below the glacier and only took 4 steps to cross. That was July 25th or so.

There are self issue permit/pay options at the bird creek meadows parking lot. Same understanding as ChinookPass.
Doppel - YES, it had that great clinky dinner plate sound. Lots of cool geology on the mountain, including some huge volcanic breccia boulders.
