I saw this for the first time yesterday. Anyone know the history of the hut? Looks like you could sleep here in a pinch, although it'd be pretty tight. Probably an excellent view when it isn't hazy!

33 years ago it was there but not open. It had some equipment in it. There were no fences there either.
Hut is at lower left.
On the other side of Tiger 1 there are some huts that are in use.

Lastly, here is a shot when it looks best:

So apparently the hut is leftover from something to do with the towers? Perhaps it was easier to leave it for hikers than to haul it out. It's reasonably equipped with blankets, a first aid kit, and stove.
Awesome last photo! Very tempting to come back on one of those occasional crystal-clear days we get in winter.

A while back I saw some facebook posts from someone who was stocking the hut with blankets and hats for hikers to take. It sounds like a nice idea until you show up during a rainstorm in February and everything is damp and you start wondering how much mold and mildew is growing.

JimK - thanks for posting those old photos. The trees have certainly grown up a bit since that first one!

Those trees have not grown as much as the ones on Tiger 3.

Probably the airfield. Gliders used to fly right by the summit.
Glider over Issaquah.

That is the old Issaquah Airport. I got a glider ride for my birthday once great fun. You could stay up for hours on the thermals near the summit. A friend used to fly the tow planes. They also did skydiving and hang gliders. Paragliders came later. There used to be a farm there all left now is the barn used for the Saturday Market. Later there was a water park there for a while. Ahhh old Izzy.

Hang gliders went off Poo Poo Point back when folks drove to the edge.

Yeah I got one of those as well, they let me take the stick for about 20 seconds and took that stick back pretty fast.
Waterworks I think was the name of that park. |
I actually held on for well over an hour, but had some previous experience. Would have kept on longer but they had other clients. They had a Fighter trainer from Eastern Europe which was very sensitive but lots of fun.
