sarbar: One time we did get run off. We lived at Cultus Bay at the time. The large piece of reclaimed pasture land at the head of the bay was owned by a banker from Seattle. He leased out the property for raising cows but also used it for a duck hunting club for his city buds. One winter day a neighbor friend and I were out rowing around the bay and we got to close to the beach along his property. His care taker came out with a shot gun and chased us off even tho we were on the water. I guess he thought we were scaring all the ducks away. We didn't argue but when I got home I told my dad. He immediately grabbed his shot gun and rowed out to a spot right off the beach. When a duck came anywhere in sight he would fire off a round or two to scare them off. He never saw the care taker and the hunters didn't have much luck that afternoon. Us Islanders would get a little testy at times.
Could you post the SW Record article mentioned? I still follow the paper on line but must have missed that one.

Wish I could link. Apparently just searching the South Whidbey Record's website blows out my 3 free reads a month. And I didn't even get to find the article. Lol.

Ski, the best part is back in I think 1998 Whidbey News Times interviewed me. I was much younger
https://www.neverfreefarm.com/about/in-the-news/ It's the second photo down (Oh the days of being in my mid 20's.......) I was teaching soap making classes through the Coupeville SD, and also took women on hikes then. Life was simple those years. It's good to be back on the island.
