Search under way for hiker missing on Pacific Crest Trail The man, 70, had been checking in with his family each day since setting out in late July. https://www.heraldnet.com/news/search-under-way-for-hiker-missing-on-pacific-crest-trail/

Hopefully he's ok. As always, not enough info to be really informed.

Hopefully his satcom simply failed. Sounds like he was using one if he was checking in every day. Assuming the news got that fact right...

I had the same thought. Hope this all ends well. Rumi

Hmm, interesting that they haven't released a name or other info. I was briefly on the PCT north of Pear Lake last week and briefly talked to a man of this in this age range. This was in the timeframe when he was still in contact with his family, my info isn't helpful, but I'd be curious. Hopefully just a technology failure.

The guy is fine, it now turns out. Technology (eventual) success. (Also, via Herald twitter.) "Pacific Crest Trail hiker, 70, tells wife he’s not missing" "The man sent a message by a satellite beacon Tuesday, just before he was supposed to reach Stehekin at the north tip of Lake Chelan. He said he was OK. The search was called off."

Great news, especially for those of us in his age group!
