Track from the Squilchuck TH to Mission Ridge / Peak. 11.2 miles, 3000' r/t
We had a narrow weather window so we needed to get out if only for exercise somewhere close, Steve wanted some views but the clouds kept the scenery limited all though the rain bands missed us the entire trip. We did have some early Fall colors and I hiked a section of the Squilchuck trail (NW section) that I have never been on. I did a snowshoe using this same route one winter but was higher than the trail and the trail was pretty interesting with twists and turns undulating through the basalt. The trail from the parking lot has widened and looks pounded from increased use over the years but it made for easy travel we had a quick lunch on the summit and returned the same way.
Huh, I always wondered where the right fork of that Clara Lake trail goes. Guess I should have looked at a map, now I don't needed to. Looks like a decent local outing, I sometimes take my wife up to Clara. Maybe we will venture a little further.
Another thru trip that could be scenic would be Squilchuck TH to Liberty Beehive Rd. to the Devils Gulch Spur Trail looping back to Mission Ridge Rd. or looping back to the original TH via the Pipeline trail. A lot of new side trails have popped up we followed one back and it came to a seasonal tarn.
