Hey folks, anyone been near some larches in the past few days? I'm wondering if they've started to turn, particularly in the 5,500' - 7,500' elevation range. Thanks!

I was in Leavenworth area yesterday and the ones we saw were still mostly green. A couple that were starting to turn.

Don't spend too long in the larch groves this fall, you might miss some key posts on the Vesper thread.

This is second hand.... A friend, today, was up on the Maple Pass loop. He said mountain ash and other brush had some good color, and the larches had just the first hint of color.

Yellow like just getting started, or yellow like approaching peak?

They're early. They were early last year, too. It's usually the second weekend in October.

It usually depends how far north you are. Usually up near the Canadian border, they're peaking around the last weekend of September. Most of the eastern cascades around the turn around the first full weekend of October. Some southern areas, like Enchantments or Carne areas, sometimes good through the second weekend of October. If they're partway turned now at Hart's Pass and Blue Lake (which I saw on a different site), but little color yet at Carne, then it looks like they're on the typical schedule, with peak still a week away farthest north and at least a couple weeks away farther south.

On Tuesday, the 18th, about 10% of the larch on Maple Pass were just faintly beginning to turn.

Just barely starting to turn at Washington Pass as of yesterday. Some have turned, others just turning in the Okanogan.
