The colors were incredible a few days ago when we did the Phelps Creek - Carne Mountain High Route various shades of yellow on the Larch but the ground cover and brush was spectacular.

It appears to be peak in the Hart's Pass area-along the road up and on the PCT south from Brown Bear th. Gorgeous fall colors along the NC Hwy especially in the Early Winters Creek area. There were some blazing orange...aspens? along the highway.

Why no update since Oct 4? Anyway, I went and did a single overnight to Ice Lakes, making a loop out of it. All the larches around Carne Mountain and Carne Mountain High Route are peaking. I still can't believe how good the weather turned out.

Crowded up on Maple pass loop on Saturday. Counted 600+ people coming from other direction. Larches were in their prime. A very nice hike to introduce the joy of larches to someone who had no idea what the big deal is.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost

The Larch are in full bloom on the Loup right now. They'll soon go into their death mode. The light is great out in them woods.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Where along the Loup? I need to pick up a set of wheels from the bike shop in Winthrop. Considering riding a loop up there.

I was at the South Summit area to ride my bike around while the Slightly Used Dog was running full tilt. I ride on the cross country ski trails which are just old roads. There are deer hunters camping there but I figure from years of observation, that most are back in camp around noon. I saw nobody out in the woods--just a grouse and the usual chipmunks and birds.

The ski hill web cam shows some nice color. https://skitheloup.com/loup-loup-mountain-cams/ I thought about returning for another ride today but my %$# dog got me up at 3:45 AM for some reason only a dog would understand. mad.gif

The larches are past their prime. Needles are falling. The unleashed dog does not care.

"Since golden October declined into sombre November / And the apples were gathered and stored, and the land became brown sharp points of death in a waste of water and mud.” --T. S. Eliot

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.--E.Abbey
