Dutchware hammock gear is now selling an asym tarp that weighs 3.27 oz. Add lines and two stakes and it still will be under 5 oz. Granted, asym tarps are designed for hammocks and offer limited protection in horizontally blowing weather. But in normal rain storms and/or combined with a hammock top cover they do ok. I had Warbonnet Hammocks custom make a hammock with sewn on winter top cover completely out of 1.1 silnylon that is less than 1 lb. With suspension and the asym tarp you get storm coverage for 20 oz. That compares to the Zpacks Plexamid cuben tent that is around 20 oz after you add a carbon pole, stakes and cuben ground cloth (or less if you set it up with a trekking pole). Both of those 20 oz options pack down small and could be thrown in a day pack for emergency shelter or used as your main backpacking shelter. You could even take both if you are unsure about ending up in trees or above treeline.

I've been packing and using a Zpacks pocket tarp for a few years now, 3 oz without stakes. Although it is listed as "emergency shelter" because of the thin .34 oz/SqY cuben (Dyneema Composite Fabrics), I've had no problems with it on extended trips.

DreamHammock has a bunch of solid lid options FWIW. And the fabric selections are indeed dreamy. peace.gif

Yeah, I have perused their hammock lineup several times in the past. But I always come back to Warbonnet because of the bootbox design. Just a quirk I have.

They're expensive but they make sweet stuff. https://www.yamamountaingear.com/
