This is one of the easiest hikes that I've posted - 6 miles round-tip, with less than 900 feet of gain. I saw one of the biggest mountain goats I've ever seen. CLICK HERE to access the blog and photo tour.
Happy trails!

If you go up Whites Canyon just east of the there you will see plenty of goats in the canyon opening. It's a nice hike up Bilk Mtn.

Thank you, I always enjoy your posts with the interactive links. The comment "The Madison limestone is made of sediment deposited when Montana was the floor of a shallow tropical ocean about 340 million years ago. Notice the location of Montana on the map - completely under water!" has, for years, caused me to wonder if the landmass rose, or if the oceans dropped so that we now have a continuous land mass from the great plains to the west coast.
And, I've been driving between the PNW and North Dakota for about 50 years now, and have often wondered if the various layers of what appears to be volcanic ash I find in western North Dakota might be related to the Mazama eruption, or are from some other source. Rocks and their characteristics have always interested me.

Moonspots - Sea level has risen and dropped in the past due to ice ages, however the land and mountains were pushed up as crustal plates pushed together (the science of Plate Tectonics).
